In this first lesson on The Anti-Mary Culture, Dr. Carrie Gress introduces the idea of a “Spirit of anti-Mary”, what that means, and how it came about. She introduces the resulting cultural trends, but reminds us that Mary is the remedy and the key to regaining an authentic sense of femininity.

Father Joe Laramie SJ
Fr. Joe hails from St Louis, Missouri and was ordained in 2011 where he served as campus minister at SLU. He now continues his work as a teacher and campus minister at two all-boys high schools: Rockhurst in KC & Regis in CO.
Preacher and spiritual director at White House Retreat in St Louis he is also the author of Abide in the Heart of Christ: a 10-Day Personal Retreat with St Ignatius Loyola based on the Spiritual Exercises [Ave Maria Press, Notre Dame IN, 2019]
Most recently, Fr. Joe became the New North American Director, Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network [formerly the ‘Apostleship of Prayer’]. This 175-year-old organization was founded by the Jesuits; we are dedicated to promoting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, helping people to pray through Ignatian spirituality, and sharing the monthly prayer intentions of the pope.
